Alex Shmidt JDC Representative, Belarus

Alex Shmidt was born in the town of Saratov, Russia. In 1997, at the age of 16, he made the bold decision to

immigrate to Israel on his own for the duration of high school. He settled at a boarding school on Kibbutz Shfayim, on Israel’s coast. At the conclusion of his studies, he was drafted to the Israeli Navy where he served for three years. Alex

holds a BA in Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology, as well as a teaching certificate and MBA, all of which he received from Bar-Ilan University.

He spent fourteen years working in the municipality of Ramat Gan ultimately directing the Immigration and Absorption unit tasked with working with immigrant youth at risk. In addition to holding to his civil service, Alex established one of the early social business incubators in Israel, and lectured in the business school of Ariel University. Alex began his role at JDC
